 Fan Back

Definition:

From parallel waves, stars or thar formations: Everyone walks forward to meet another dancer (those facing out in waves walk forward and turn in to meet each other) and all arm turn half with the same hands they had joined at the start to go back and join hands in the position next to the one they started in. Finishes in the same formation the movement began in.

COMMENT: This title has been more or less universally replaced by Fan Back (Version #2) which is in the Diamond Choreography group. This original Fan Back was a kind of forerunner of Follow Your Neighbor and Scoot Back type movements.

This definition is from The Handbook of Modern Square Dancing by Jay King.
