 Eight Chain Thru

Definition:

This is the move that gave its name to Eight Chain Thru Formation. From a column arrangement in which two couples in the center are back to back facing two outside couples who are facing in: Starting with a right hand and alternating hands, pull by eight times until all dancers are back to starting position. Whenever dancers have pulled by with right hands and are facing out of the set, give a left to each other and do a courtesy turn to face back in and start down the other column with a right hand. The call has come to be used for any number of hands: Eight Chain One, Two, Three, Four--right up to Seven. Other possibilities also exist such as: Heads go four, sides go three; boys go six, girls go five, etc.
