Factory Tours and Other Chocolate Excursions

Lindt Chocolate Museum
 Cologne (Köln), Germany
Pictures     Brochure (12 pages)

In July 2007, our family visited the Lindt Schokoladen Museum  www.schokoladenmuseum.de
(also known as the Imhoff Stollwerck Schokolademuseum)

The Museum is located adjacent to old town Köln at the tip of a small island in the river. On the day we arrived, it was raining and the museum was very crowded. A huge parking garage is located immediately underneath the museum.

The museum consists of 3 floors, showing chocolate-related items. Visitors are invited to taste the output from a working milk-chocolate candy assembly line. The entrance fee was about US$8 per adult. The museum is interesting, but not worth a second visit. The gift shop has a wide variety of chocolate, and is definitely worth a visit.

Scharffen Berger Chocolate Factory
 Berkeley, California
Pictures

In August 2007, Vic & Debbie visited the Scharffen Berger Chocolate Factory  www.scharffenbergertour.com

The factory is located in an old brick building. Reservations are required for the (free) tour. After a 30 minute introduction, which includes tasting several chocolate products (milk chocolate, bittersweet, extra dark, and nibs), visitors are given hairnets and optional ear protection prior to entering the factory. This is a real chocolate factory, and definitely worth a visit!

In May 2008, Vic & Debbie visited the Theo Chocolate Factory  www.theochocolate.com

The Theo factory is also located in a brick building. Reservations are highly recommended. The tour is $5 per person, and plenty of chocolate is offered for tasting. A brief overview and tasting is provided, then a walk around the facility. Hairnets are also worn here. This is a real chocolate factory, and definitely worth a visit!
