OPENER - MIDDLE BREAK - CLOSER    Basic, corner progression

Allemande left that corner girl, swing with your taw
4 little ladies promenade, go once around that hall
With an arm around that one at home, star promenade your beau
The girls back out and the gents star in, the other way you go
Girls roll back, left allemande and weave around that ring
Go in and out till you meet your girl, and then you promenade
Six tall slim, slick, sycamore sapling, possum up a tree
Somewhere up in one of my saplings, possum laughin' at me

FIGURE    Basic, R-H lady progression

1 & 3 lead out to the right, circle 4 you know
Head gents break and make a line, it's up and back you go
Square thru across from you, 4 hands around you do
And the lady on the right, frontier whirl, then do a right & left thru
Pass thru, left allemande, and walk right by your own
Swing & whirl with the right hand girl, and promenade her home
Six tall slim, slick, sycamore sapling, possum on a limb
If he's up there in one of my saplings, I'll get even with him

ALTERNATE LYRICS

Six tall slim, slick, sycamore sapling, possum on the ground
It's a darn good thing I got my dog, that possum can't be found

The Possum Song

Way down south of the Mason Dixon; There's a man who's really fixin
To match those taters in his bin, with possum meat and that ain't sin

Six tall slim slick sycamore saplins, possum up a tree
Somewhere up in one of them saplins, possum laughin at me
Hound dog bayin, know what he's sayin possum on a limb
He done hid in one of those saplins and I'll get even with him

Get a-goin feet, gotta run get my gun; and beat it over yonder to the hollow
Moon is shinin bright on the treetops tonight
The possum ain't far, thar he are thar

Six tall slim slick sycamore saplins, possum on the loose
He's been stealing all my chickens, now I'll cook his goose
Possum know he in a jam; he'll go good with candied yam
Doggone tootin, sure as I'm shootin, possum fallin for me

Six tall slim slick sycamore saplins, possum up a tree
Somewhere up in one of my saplins, possum's laughin at me
Hound dog bayin, know what he's sayin possum on a limb
He done hid in one of them saplins and I'll get even with him

Get a-goin feet, gotta run get my gun, and beat it over yonder to the hollow
Moon is shinin bright on the treetops tonight
The possum ain't far; Thar he are thar

Six tall slim slick sycamore saplins, possum show your skin
He been stealin all a my chickens, to shoot him ain't no sin
Moonlight shinin' in my eye, miss that possum and I'll die
Doggone moonlight, doggone eyesight, missed that possum again

Composed by Terry Shand.
Lyrics by "By" Dunham.

Remember this song from my childhood, late 1940s, but
haven't been able to find the full lyrics on line. I recall:
Six tall slim slick sycamore saplings
Possum up a limb
He's been stealing all of my chickens
I'll get even with him
Getta going south gotta run get my gun
And hurry over yonda to the holler
Moon is shining bright on the treetops tonight

which is where memory runs out
Some old American country group, like the Oak Ridge Boys....

I remember this song from my childhood. My parents had old black 78RPM
records that we played on the old Victrolla. This album and the Spike Jones
albums were among my favorites.
