My name is Trevor Armstrong and I'm the caller on the record "The Auctioneer" by Triple Yolker Records. If my memory serves me right I recorded this record in the late 80's early 90's. At the time, I had a lot of dealings with Tom Dillander to get this record over the line, so to speak. In those day I was getting a lot of flak from the senior callers of the day because I had only started calling for 3 months before Tom released this record for me. Until, we had a national square dance conference in our town. I had to ask permission of the New Zealand callers association if I could get up and call the Auctioneer, reluctantly they did with poking and prodding from our home town square dance club.

I must admit I was absolutely kegging myself. Many, many people looking at me. After I had finished, I got the surprise of my life when everyone started clapping and they wouldn't stop, standing ovation and all. I use to be a bit of a rebel in those days and would challenge the call of square dancing. I actually recorded about 6 Square Dance songs but, unfortunately they never made it to Tom of Palomino Records even though Tom and I spoke a lot about putting them down on vinyl. The Auctioneer was the only one that made the hit list.

The name "Triple Yolker" came from a recording session we had in the local radio station. There was my brother Mark Armstrong, Peter Jones (Jonesy) now passed away and myself. We thought if we were going to get these calls put down on vinyl we'll have to give ourselves a name. It just so happened that Jonesy's wife was in the studio as well reading a magazine and she piped up and said, Why don't you call yourselves "Triple Yolker" like this picture I have here. She turned the book and showed us and needless to say the rest was history.
