Don Shotwell

Donald Grant Shotwell was born May 19, 1922 and served in the United States Coast Guard from Oct. 25, 1945 through August 22, 1966. While in the Coast Guard, Don was stationed on Guam where he learned how to square dance. Married to Roberta, they had a daughter (Bobbie) and son (Martin) who also danced. Around 1960, Don began to learn how to call from Roy Conger while still in Guam. When the Coast Guard relocated him, Don continued calling in San Francisco. He had three clubs in the area: Rolling Squares, Square Cutters and Cable Cutters. He often called for the Choo Choo Squares Benefit dance. Don recorded on Lucky Records. Don passed away on March 28, 1982.
