He was born Nov. 6, 1922 in Cleveland County to the late William H. and Brunia Davis Humphries.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Ronald Humphries, and two brothers and two sisters.
Mr. Humphries was retired from Creative Outdoors Advertising where he was a talented sign painter and was a member of Tabernacle Advent Christian Church. He was a retired square dance caller for Foothills Squares of Lenoir. He recorded a record for MarLet and another for Lamon Records.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Doris Barlow Humphries of the home; a son, Dennis Avery Humphries of Butner; a step-son Thomas B. Laws of Granite Falls; two step-daughters, Billie Ruth Robbins of Charlotte and Elaine Laws Freeman of Carthage; two brothers, Gerald Humphries of Shelby and James Humphries of Prosperity, S.C.; a sister, Letha Ray Beaver; a half-sister, Suzanne Greene of Swainsville; two grandchildren; five step grandchildren and seven step great grandchildren.
