Profile in Callers and Cuers

Jim Duncan completed 43 years in public education in Florida and Tennessee. Prior to retirement in December 2006, he was Principal of Oak Ridge High School in Tennessee and later the Director of Schools in Wilson County, Tennessee. He was a Principal and Superintendent of Schools in Florida for 30 years and completed his BS, MS, EdS at the University of Florida. His Ed.D is from the University of North Florida. Jim and his wife Sandra have been married for 41 years and they have two children and five grandchildren who all live in Florida. Jim and Sandra began square dancing in 1976 and Jim began calling in 1980. They served as president of the Strawberry Swingers in Starke, Fl and Jim served as Treasure of the Florida Callers Association and club caller for the Merry Mavericks in Jacksonville and the Lakeside Dancers in Lake Butler, Florida. Due to family and job responsibilities square dancing was put on hold until retirement and their move to North Carolina in 2006. Jim is an associate caller for the High Mountain Squares in Franklin, NC, a member of the North Carolina Callers Association and Callerlab. He has taught square dance lessons in Highlands, NC and Seneca, SC and was the club caller and teacher for the Habersham Squares in Cornelia. Jim has also recorded a gospel CD project and he and Sandra are active members of Holly Springs Baptist Church in Franklin, NC.
