Donald "Bill" Lee Wiggins was born in Harlingen, Texas on July 19, 1939 and passed away at
his home in Puyallup, Washington, surrounded by his family on August 22, 2014.
After Don's birth his family moved from Texas to Spokane, Washington. Don proudly served
aboard the USS Durant, an Edsell class destroyer as an Aerographer's Mate 2. He moved to
Southern California and eventually met his lifemate, Patricia. They were married March
13, 1976 and spent a wonderful 38 years together.
Don was an active member of Toastmasters, Rotary, Lions, and Chamber of Commerce in the
various communities where he lived. In 1982 they relocated to Walla Walla so Don could
take a position at the Walla Walla Union Bulletin. After moving to Walla Walla, Don took
up Square Dance calling. Eventually forming his own club, the Milton-Freewater Muddy Frogs.
In 2006 a desire to move closer to family brought them to Puyallup where they continued
teaching and calling for various clubs in the area. They often travelled throughout the
country attending Square Dance Conventions. Don received the Parker Award for his teaching
and calling. He was a past president of the Washington State Square and Folk Dance
Federation and was involved with the National Square Dance Convention. Donald also served
as Editor of Footnotes, the Washington State Square Dance magazine.
Donald was an avid golfer and enjoyed getting up in the wee hours to wander the golf courses
with his golf buddies. If he wasn't golfing he was watching it on TV.
He loved meeting people and touched many hearts with his wit and humor. His memory will live
on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Don was preceded in death by his father and mother, Everett and Lucille Wiggins, brother Bud
and sister Betty. Donald is survived by his lovely wife; Patricia, his children; Lori, Donald,
Meridee and Kathy, his seven grandchildren, sister, Sally, son-in-law Larry and his many, many
