Calling Basic thru Plus

Jim is for the most part retired but recently started calling again once in awhile as a substitute caller if needed. He is looking forward however, to starting a new class in the area as there are none.

We do a lot of research on folk dancing in general and he is a master of "vintage" music and has his own radio show in Nevada City, CA where he plays a wide variety of music. You are free to listen in on KVMR.org. His show is Wednesdays 1 to 4 pm and is called Looking Back.

A home base business in travel keeps both him and his wife, Lessie busy planning group dance trips for square and contra dancers.

From Steve Baker, program director at KVMR radio in Nevada City, CA:

We have lost the gentle smile and charm of KVMR broadcaster Jim Diffey.
Jim passed away Tuesday afternoon from congestive heart failure, reports
broadcaster Jenny Michael. "I was honored to be on the phone with his
daughter Sandy the very moment he let go..." He was around 78 years old

He and his late wife Lessie were longtime KVMR volunteers. Jim became a
certified broadcaster in 1992, he hosted the Thursday 4 am-7am show
"Ample Genus" and later alternated with John Goodman in the Wednesday
vintage music rotation 2pm to 4pm. Jim's version was called "Looking
Back", and it seems to me Lessie joined him on some of the shows.

They were also very involved in the local square dance community as they
dearly loved to square dance, and Jim himself was an active square dance
caller.

Maybe ten years ago or so, they moved to the Vacaville area. A few
years ago, his beloved Lessie died, leaving a hole in his life.

"He and I would talk often over the last few years," says Jenny.
"He seemed to feel he could talk to me about his grief, that I was
someone who could understand what he was going through."

Throughout it all, Jim clung to his connection to KVMR and our
family. "As long as he was able," recalls Edy, "he'd come into
town to volunteer with us and to connect with us and his friends
here at the station."

I believe he was here for The Big Move last February.

Jim wanted to move back to Nevada City but his health didn't
permit it.

He'll be missed.
