I have been calling for 25+ years. I call for 2 clubs on a weekly basis. I have taught in the continuing education program on several occasions. I do one night stands without the help of experienced dancers. Although I do not call the Advanced program, the wife and I did dance it for a period of time. I entertain at retirement homes by singing classic country songs for those beyond their dancing years. I believe a square dance is as much a social event as a dance event, and a square dance club should be part of your personal support group.

My purpose in calling dances is to create events that bring people together, build community and teach traditional values and etiquette. I host and call dances for Civil War Balls that are primarily for families and youths. I also call dances for hoedowns, weddings, school programs, living history reenactments and other private events. My focus is on historical dances, so I am not your typical modern-day square dance caller or round dance caller. I combine various quadrilles, circle dances, longways dances along with some polkas and waltzes to create unique historical events.

Naaman Moorehouse started his calling career in 1977 while living in Honolulu, Hawaii. Throughout the next 16 years he organized and maintained three dance clubs in Honolulu and was a frequent guest caller around the islands. After relocating to the mainland, he organized and maintained dance clubs in Davenport and Preston, Iowa and was a frequent guest caller for dances in Illinois, Wisconsin, Iowa and Missouri. Several years ago Naaman relocated to western Colorado and declared himself to be retired from the work demands which kept him on the road for so many years. It was soon thereafter that he picked up his mike, dusted off his records and rekindled his passion for calling. He is currently the club caller for the Delta Hub Wheelers (Delta, CO); the Black Canyon Twirlers (Montrose, CO); and his own Plus Club, the High Desert Diamonds, which he recently started and which dances the 1st & 3rd Fridays of each month in Grand Junction, CO.

Christina is 16 years old. She has been square dancing for 5 years. She called her first singing call at her Mainstream class graduation. Plus dancing was added to her repertoire while staying in Japan. She now dances MS through A2. Last year (2005) was her first time calling at the National Square Dance Convention outside of exhibitions and she continues to improve her calling skills.

I am in the Ludington area June through September. I specialize in party dances, one night stands, weddings, hoe downs, and any special occasion. I also call Western Square Dances from beginners through plus.

My square dance calling is primarily old-fashioned and new england squares as well as the quadrilles from the 19th century and the cotillions from the 18th century. I began square dancing in 1969, and started calling in 1970. At that time I lived in Wisconsin. I had two clubs that I gave lessons for and called the dances every month, and both clubs had floats in local parades, also we entertained at Senior Centers. One Club was at Downing, WI. called the Beaux & Belles. The second Club was at New Richmond, WI. named Willow Squares. Both clubs have since closed down.

In the 1980s I also called regularly for the Rice Lake Twirlers. I called for several clubs in Wisconsin from 1970 to 1992 in Chippewa Falls, Eau Claire, Fall Creek, Centuria and Downsville. In Minnesota I called in Albert Lea, Burnsville, Duluth, Saint Paul, Rum River, and several more. Annually we had Hog Roasts at a campground at Menomonie, Wisconsin.

In 1992 I sold the farm I was operating and moved to MN, to search for work. I ended up at West Publishing (Thomson Reuters) for 12 years.

I did square dance lessons, and dances, for Richfield Squares club. Then I started teaching Country Line dancing with a club in Bloomington, Minnesota. I occasionally called tips with Dick Reuter at Spares & Pairs in Bloomington. I retired from West Publishing (Thomson Reuters) in 2007.

I have called in WI, MN, ND, SD and a weekend festival in Ontario Canada. I had an extended time off due to surgeries, but am now resuming Square Dance Calling. I have submitted my renewal of membership with Callerlab & BMI/ASCAP, and am a member with MSDCA. Paul Rosenberg has been leading dances throughout the northeastern United States since 1986. In recent years, he has been one of the busiest traditional dance callers using live music in North America, working over 200 dance engagements a year. He is known for his gentle but energetic, encouraging style, concise teaching, and offbeat sense of humor. Dennis Sullivan is a retired physician and university professor. He and his wife Barb have been square dancing since 2022, and he has been a caller since 2023. He serves as assistant caller for the Yellow Rockers Square Dance Club in Xenia, Ohio. Dennis has a true passion for square dancing and he loves to teach. They are usually for social groups, clubs, athletic org., etc. and usually are beginners, who require a 'lot of instruction and patience'. I added Country/Western Line Dancing to my schedule of dances. These dances can be done by beginners. I like to stay in the Phila, Pa. area, but I'll travel. Dancing is fun!

Our Club The Flutterbys dances every Thursday night, 7:00 PM at the Belle Hall Plantation Clubhouse, Mt Pleasant, SC. Come dance for the fun of it and improve your mental and physical health at the same time. Have been dancing since 1968. My husband started in 1997 and we are now A dancers. We have the clubhouse at our subdivision to use every Thursday night and one of us had to learn to call so we can use it. So in 2006 I went to the Caller's School sponsored by Grand Squares, Inc. in St Louis and started calling. Was able to teach 16 Home Schoolers Basic Square Dancing. They seemed to enjoy it but have not got them to go further. We have started a Mainstream Club, The Flutterby's, but it is slow going. We are not giving up just yet though. We are trying an Introduction to Western Dance on May 18, 2007 and will hope to get some in our community to come to it. We call to 2 couples if that is all that shows up. One night I had one lady come and she and I did line danceing for a while. Our theme is Square Dancing is Fun--Try It.

Tim grew up in a square dance family and began dancing in his early teens. In 1974, at age 15, Tim began calling and has been actively calling ever since. Tim calls and teaches lessons at all programs Basic through A-2. Tim currently calls an average of 260 dances annually both locally in his home area and throughout the United States. Tim is known for his energetic, lively, and exciting style of calling while using a wide variety of calls and musical styles. He makes the simplest choreography interesting while successfully moving dancers through complex and unusual choreography. He is known for his quick wit, humor, and ability to keep dancers laughing, and for his unique performances of specialty songs and his parody of songs. He specializes in calling for youth square dance groups and square dance parties for youth and adult non-square dance groups. Tim works regularly with several home school organizations, as well as public schools and both youth and adult church groups. Tim also does old time traditional calling. In his home area, Tim teaches beginner lessons every year, and has been very successful in recruiting and retaining new dancers, and in building strong clubs. I currently call for two clubs in Utah. I have been calling since 1970. I guest call regularly for clubs all around Utah, Colorado, Wyoming, Idaho, Montana and Washington. I call for two groups. On Tuesdays, Double R Squares a Plus club,and on Thursdays, Sunshine Dancers, SSD/MS with plus tips in between. I have recorded on River Boat Records. I believe Square Dancing is a wonderful activity to make friends and have great time exercising.

I fiddle and call simultaneously, accompanied by a piano player or a guitarist. Currently, the regular dances I do each month are in West Newbury, VT (4th Saturdays), and Wentworth, NH (1st Fridays).

I started prompting/calling in 1991, the same year I started to play the fiddle; I also play piano for accompaniment of other fiddlers. My teacher was the late Harold Luce of Chelsea, VT. Primarily, I like eastern style squares, as you don't need to give a whole lot of instruction, and everyone can participate.

Called for various clubs over the years - more recently the Gateway Squares in Antigo. Past convention chairman. Worked on many Wisconsin conventions and one National convention in St. Paul, MN. Also taught square dancing in schools. Mostly involved with MWSD, but also call with live music for one night stands (traditional squares and contra). I mainly call in the Black Hills area but am willing to go outside area. I am a member of the SD Callers Assoc. Am currently teaching a group of elementary students and will expand on this in the future. I am also President of the Custer Gold Dusters in Custer, SD. I was an OEF Soldier with 23 years military before retiring.
