Alan R. Schultz, 63, of Topeka, passed away Wednesday, August 02, 2006 at Midland Hospice. He was born July 19, 1943 in Lincoln, NE the son of Stanley and Ruth Hancock Schultz.

Alan was raised by his grandmother in Akron, OH. He served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam Era. Alan was a computer analyst for the Santa-Fe Railroad. He later was a marketing manager for Fisher International in Florida. Alan retired from the Kansas Department of Transportation.

Alan was a square dance caller and teacher for 37 years. He was a member of the North East Kansas and State Square Dance Callers Associations. Alan was the founder of Swinging Squares Square Dance Club, founder and president of Croco Square Dance Hall.

He was a volunteer at Topeka Civic Theatre & Academy (TCTA) and for Employers Support for Guards and Reserves (ESGR). He was a member of St. Matthews Catholic Church where he was an usher, Knights of Columbus Council #534, and Moose Lodge #555.

Alan was married to Diane F. Schmitz on February 6, 1965 in St. Benedict, KS. She survives. Other survivors include: Two sons, Frank and Christopher Schultz of Topeka, One daughter, Kimberly Schultz of Topeka, Two brothers, a twin, Elliott Schultz of Delray Beach, FL and William Phares of Uniontown, OH Two grandchildren. His parents and a sister, Sandra Lovato preceded him in death.

Mr. Schultz will lie in state after 5:00 p.m. Friday, August 4 at St. Matthews Catholic Church, 2701 SE Virginia, Topeka. Please join the family that evening for a Celebration of Alan's life from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. followed by the Knights of Columbus Council #534 praying the rosary. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 5 at St. Matthews Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery with military honors provided by a United States Air Force honors guard. Memorial contributions may be given to Midland Hospice Care or the Northeast Kansas Parkinsons Disease Association and sent in care of the Brnnan-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 SW 6th, Topeka, KS 66603.
