Sandra Croley Turner Brown age 64 passed away unexpectedly on February 19, 2011. Born in Atlanta on August 17, 1946, Sandy graduated from Sandy Springs High School in 1964 and attended Armstrong State College in Savannah, GA. Her 30-year career included working for Southern Bell, C&P Bell, AT&T and ended with her retirement from Lucent Technologies. After she retired, she and her husband Kit moved to their dream farm in Murphy, NC where she enjoyed the simpler life of driving her tractor, gardening, raising chickens, and tending horses. A world-renowned round dance cuer, Sandy began square dancing and round dancing in her early 30's. A few years later she began teaching round dance in Conyers and throughout the metro Atlanta area. Sandy later became the cuer for dance clubs including The Carousels, The Barn Dancer's, The Yellow Rocks, and the Circle 8's just to name a few, as well as the guest cuer for many other clubs and workshops around the country. Her love for dance led Sandy and Kit to volunteer their time and teach the 4th-6th graders dance classes at Martin's Creek Middle School in Cherokee County, NC for 8 years. During the past 15 years, Sandy and Kit traveled throughout the United States and abroad teaching and promoting the joy of dancing. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and "Teeny" Croley of Sandy Springs, and husband, Otto Turner of Conyers, GA. She is survived by her husband of 15 years Kermit "Kit" Brown, son Tim Turner (and wife Anne) of Marietta, GA, step-son Tony Turner (and wife Becky) of Hickory, NC, sisters Jackie Wright (and husband Hugh) of St. Augustine, FL, Nancy Ewell (and husband Andy) of Mineral Bluff, GA, Pam Reed (and husband Buddy) of Peachtree City, GA, and Jeanette Wear (and husband Andy) of Sharpsburg, GA along with 5 step-children, many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, and cousins. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2011 at the Buford Presbyterian Church, 1242 Buford Hwy, Sugar Hill, GA 30518. The family will receive friends at the church following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Sandy Brown's name to Our Lady of Perpetual Help, 760 Pollard Blvd. SW Atlanta, GA 30315 Published in The Atlanta Journal-Constitution on Mar. 4, 2011.
