Notes:

  • Pass In | Out can be done by any two Facing Dancers (or dancers in a R-H Mini-Wave) with the restriction that after the Pass Thru, neither dancer is directly facing toward or away from the flagpole center of the set.
  • Each dancer individually evaluates the direction (In or Out).
  • After the Pass Thru, even if you are already facing In | Out, you must still turn 1/4.
  • After Pass In, everyone is facing toward the center of the set. If you end facing out, then you did the call incorrectly.
  • After Pass Out, everyone is facing away from the center of the set.
  • From an Eight Chain Thru, a caller may call "Pass In Twice". Be careful if you start as an Outside: the second Pass In causes you to turn the opposite direction from the first Pass In. You need to re-evaluate your position before the second Pass In.

Pass Right | Left [NOL]: From Facing Dancers or a R-H Mini-Wave. Pass Thru; Face Right | Left (individually turn 1/4 in place to the Right | Left). Ends in a R-H | L-H Mini-Wave.

Face In | Out [MSV]: Individually turn 1/4 in place toward (Face In) or away from (Face Out) the center of the set.

1/4 In | Out [A1] (Jim Faulkenberry and Clarence Watson 1959): From a Couple or Mini-Wave. Individually turn 1/4 toward (1/4 In) or away from (1/4 Out) your Partner (the adjacent dancer). If you do not have a Partner, turn 1/4 toward or away from the center of the smallest applicable sub-formation you can find.

Split Pass In | Out [NOL]: From Facing Couples or other applicable formations. Pass Thru; 1/4 In | Out (i.e., working in your 4-dancer setup do a Pass In | Out).

Slide Thru [Mainstream] (Harlan Moody 1965): From Facing Dancers or a R-H Mini-Wave. Pass Thru; Girls Face Left as Boys Face Right. Opposite sex dancers end as a Couple; Two Boys end in a R-H Mini-Wave; Two Girls end in a L-H Mini-Wave.
