Notes:

  • Out-Facing Ends (the 'Out-Rollers') should identify themselves by raising a hand, and/or making a noise (e.g., whistle, yell "me") so that the other dancers in their line know toward which end to move.
  • Don't move until the 'Out-Roller' in your Line identifies themself and you know which way to go.
  • The non-Out-Roller's part is to Flip (180°) one position down the line toward the vacated End position. This action is sometimes described as a 'Run' or alternatively, as one movement, turn 1/4 toward the Out-Rollers starting spot, step forward into the next position, and turn another 1/4 toward your initial turning direction.
  • Everyone can Roll after an Out Roll Circulate.
  • Each Line can only have one Out-Facing End. If you're the In-Facing End or adjacent dancer, move toward the far End position.
  • Out Roll Circulate can be done from any Line, anywhere, if the caller designates who is preferred as the 'Out-Roller'. For example, from Out-Facing Lines, the caller could say Prefer the End Boy for an Out Roll Circulate. In this case, the End Boy does a Circulate (or a Trade to the far End), as the Others Flip (180°) one position toward the 'preferred' End's original position.
