Notes:
  • At A2, Switch To A Diamond should only be called from a Wave; and Switch To An Hourglass should only be called from Parallel Waves. At C1 and above, these calls may be called from any legal starting formation.
  • On any Switch call, Centers do a Run (flip away from the Center of the formation).
  • Switch To A formation:
Centers Run as Ends do your part of a formation Circulate. Usually ends in the given formation.
  • Some glossaries define Switch To A Diamond as Centers Run + New Centers Hinge. We believe it is better to think instead about the Ends doing a Diamond Circulate. This simplifies learning future calls since you can apply the same rule (i.e., a formation Circulate) to three calls (Switch To A Diamond, Switch To An Hourglass, Switch To An Interlocked Diamond). Would you rather memorize three traffic patterns or one rule that you can use for all three calls?

Switch The Wave [A2] (Roger Chapman 1969): From a Wave. Centers Run as Ends Cross Run. Ends in a Two-Faced Line.

Switch To An Interlocked Diamond [C1] (Sandy Knowles 1976): From Parallel Lines|Waves. Centers Run as Ends (do your part) Interlocked Diamond Circulate. Ends in Twin Diamonds.

Switcheroo [C4] (Lee Kopman 1972): From Parallel Waves (or applicable Parallel Lines). Switch To A Diamond; Centers Cast Off 3/4 as Ends Circulate. Parallel Waves end in Parallel Two-Faced Lines.

Cross Roll To A(n) Diamond | Hourglass | Interlocked Diamond [C4]: From Parallel Waves (or applicable Parallel Lines). Centers Cross Run as Ends do your part Diamond | Hourglass | Interlocked Diamond Circulate. A better name for this call might be Cross Switch To A(n) Diamond | Hourglass | Interlocked Diamond.

Cross To A(n) Diamond | Hourglass | Interlocked Diamond [C4]: From Parallel Waves (or applicable Parallel Lines). Centers Crossover Circulate as Ends do your part Diamond | Hourglass | Interlocked Diamond Circulate.
