Squares:  Basic, Mainstream, Plus, A1, A2
Rounds:   Phase I, Phase II, Phase III, Phase IV, Phase V
Other InformationThe 1st Slovak Convention is immediately followed by the Corvinus Dance taking place on a holiday - Thursday, May 1, 2008, in Viener Neustadt, and the Ferris Wheel Party taking place in Wien from May 10 till May 12, 2008, as well as a series of clubnights from May 5 till May 8, 2008. -----
Interesting Blocks in the Program:
1) Five Square Dance Workshops in total: Basic thru A2 (however, workshops will not be the only interesting blocks from the technical point of view - Czech and Slovak callers are generally known for their DBD - Dance By Definitions).
2) Three Round Dance Workshops: Phase II - III, phase IV and phase V as well as a Waltz Clinic (conducted by Zuzka and Kája Pátík, the best dancing Czechoslovak Round Dance couple).
3) We plan several hours of practising the Basic calls from non-standard positions on Friday, May 2, before the 1st Slovak Convention starts officially.
4) We plan a 90-minutes-long block of "fun with Franta" on Saturday, May 3. Franta Cermák is a very popular Czech cuer, known for many of his own interesting and dynamic choreographies. This block will be devoted to these choreographies of him.
5) An "ABC Records" block. The caller duo of Jiŕí "Slamák" Slabý and Jirka Šcobák has been running the ABC Records since 1998. They will present the best of their music on Saturday, May 3.
6) An Open Air will take place in the historical center of Bratislava on Sunday, May 4th (10 a.m. thru 1 p.m.). As the city square is our "largest hall", the Grand March will take place there (attended by the public as well as press). The center of Bratislava has experienced many Open Air dances and we cannot but recommend them. Be sure to come!
7) Other program than dancing. A sight-seeing tour will be organized in Bratislava on Friday, May 2, starting in the (late) morning. At the Saturday night dance (May 3), dancing in national costumes is allowed apart from proper Square Dance attire. -----

Although the Czechoslovak Square Dance and Round will celebrate 20 years of existence in 2008, the 1st Slovak Convention is the first Convention in Slovakia. We would like to introduce Bratislava to you. Bratislava: A very pleasant city. Its oldest documented name is Istropolis (Istros - Danube, Polis - city). It is located on both sides of Danube, 60 kilometers from Wien, directly at the borders of Austria and Hungary. At the border of the city, the first hills of Malé Karpaty (a continuous stripe of hills that merges into Vysoké Tatry, the highest Slovak mountains, 250 kilometers to the north) go up. Things of interest: Maria Theresa, the empress of Austria, was crowned in Bratislava (not in Wien). There are many churches in Bratislava. The Dome of Martin is known for its glass windows made by the same company that produced glass windows for the Stephansdom in Vienna (moreover, the windows in the Dome of Martin are their oldest preserved work). The house "U dobreho pastiera" (At a good shepherd) is the most narrow house in the Central Europe and there is an exposition of historical clocks located in it. Apart from many other newer relics, a figure of a woman made of mammoth ivory (25000 years old) can be seen in the repository at the Bratislava Castle. -----

Devinska Nova Ves:
The 1st Slovak Convention takes place in the Devínska Nová Ves (part of Bratislava), about 15 km from the city center. Devínska Nová Ves is located on the Austrian border on the shore of the Morava river (Morava flows into Danube beneath the Devín Castle, which is a ruin worth a visit). The surroundings of Devínska Nová Ves are declared a protected territory (or a nature preserve). Many species of birds nest in the area of the Morava river; there is the Devínska Kobyla hill directly above Devínska Nová Ves. A 30-minutes walk from the dance halls will take you to Sandberg known for discoveries of fossil shells and ammonites.
