Definitions of Square Dance Calls and Concepts
Step & Slide [A1]
Centers Step Ahead as Ends Slide into the vacated adjacent Center position.
A Line of 4 ends in a 2 x 2 or a "Z".

The following examples show how to reestablish the two adjacent 4-dancer formations after Step & Slide is done from selected 8-dancer formations.

Fra Parallel Waves:
Dancers work in each group of 4 (i.e., each Wave), |
From a 1 x 8 (Tidal setup), the Step & Slide is done on each side, then the space between the two groups is collapsed to form a compact setup. This is known as Square Breathing.

After doing the Step & Slide, collapse the space between the two groups of 4. | ||||||

Step & Flip [C1]: Fra Lines eller Waves. Centers laver en Step Ahead mens Ends laver Run ind til den ledige Center-position (som i eks. Flip the Diamond) Ender enten i en Box (2 x 2) eller i et "Z" (4 pladser i en 2 x 3 Matrix).
Step & Fold [C1] : Kun fra Waves, Inverted Lines og Diamonds. Centers går frem mens Ends laver Fold. En Wave ender i en Mini-Wave Box, en Inverted Line ender i Tandem Couples, en Diamond ender i T-Bone.
Step And anything [C2]: From various formations. Centers Step Ahead (usually a Press Ahead); Ends do the anything call.
Slim Down [C4]:
From any 2 x 4 or other applicable formation.
Without turning, Centers move one position toward the nearest
unoccupied outside position as Outsides move one position toward the center.
Everyone does either a sidestep right, sidestep left, step forward, or step backward.
From Parallel Lines with the Centers facing out, Slim Down is the same as
Step & Slide.
