Welcome
The staff welcomes you to the Academy for Advanced and Challenge Enthusiasts.
The focus sessions for each morning will provide an indepth look
at a call or concept for each program. You can find
them on the schedule included in this booklet. Individual schedules for
each day will be available at the registration desk.
We will have a mix of "open" tips and computer generated tips.
During the focus sessions, only the first tip of each hour will be open. In
the afternoon, the first two hours will also follow that format. During
the last hour, the first two tips will be computer-generated and the last
two tips will be open star tips. The evening sessions will have the first
tip of every hour open and the last tip of the evening open.
The star tips will be called with few, if any, cues and will be called at
speed. The choreography may be more difficult, but will not use calls from
a higher program.
Computer-generated squares
When you arrived, you were given a card with a number on it - this is
your number for the weekend. When you enter a dance hall, go to the
computer operator's table and write your number on the "IN" side of
the sheet that's on the table. For each computer-generated tip, check
the computer screen and find your square - it'll be next to your
number.
If you want to sit out a computer-generated tip, write your number on
the "OUT" side of the sheet. When you want to dance again, write
your number on the "IN" side of the sheet. Please do this well before
the computer-generated tip.
If you want to change dance halls, PLEASE REMEMBER TO SIGN OUT of the hall
you're leaving by writing your number on the "OUT" side of the computer sheet.
When you arrive at the new dance hall, sign in by writing your number on the
"IN" side of the sheet in that hall.
All computer operators will set everyone to "OUT" at the end of each
session, so you must sign in at the beginning of each session.
Singles
AACE welcomes single dancers. The computer program accommodates singles.
The program will pair up singles and, only if necessary, split up a couple
once in awhile to allow a single to dance. All couples are defaulted
to allow for this occasional split to help out the singles, but it
should not split up couples repeatedly. If there is some reason that
you never wish to be split from your partner for the purpose of helping
singles, please ask the computer operator to change your default setting.
Please fill out the "feedback" page, which is the last page of this
booklet. Your input will help us to make the convention even better.
