How to - Find A Bad Snapshot Record

Occasionally when writing a sequence via Sequence - Edit [Graphics], the program incorrectly executes a call. This usually occurs due to an incorrectly entered record in the snapshot database.

This tutorial shows how to find the bad snapshot record so that it may be corrected or deleted.

After finding the bad snapshot record...

  1. If you are the author of the snapshot record, then correct it or delete it.

  2. If the snapshot reocrd has a Master ID (shown in upper center), please Contact Vic to correct it in the master database.

Find a bad snapshot via Sequence Edit [Graphics]

Usually a bad snapshot record is noticed as a sequence is being written, when the program displays an incorrect ending position for a call.

Notice that the above ending formation is incorrect.

To fix ths issue:

  1. Immediately after executing the bad call, and before executing the next line in the sequence, press Ctrl+S (press and hold the Ctrl key while pressing the "S" key) or from the menu select 'View | Last snapshot record used'.

You might need to press F11 a couple of times so that the last line in the processed text section shows the incorrectly executed call.

The Snapshot - View window opens showing the last snapshot record used by the program.

  2. Examine the snapshot reocrd. If it is incorrect, edit or delete it.

After making a modification, close the Snapshot View window to return to the Sequence Edit [Graphics] window. In the Sequence Edit [Graphics] window press F11 followed by F12 to re-execute the call.

Note: some calls are expanded or extrapolated by the program, and the snapshot database may not be used. As such, the last snapshot record used may be the last portion of the call, a scaled down version of the call, or a completely different call (if the call is hard-coded into the program). In this case, you may wish to Contact Vic.

Find a bad snapshot via Snapshot | View a Record

The Snapshot - View window can be accessed from the CSDS Main Menu via 'Snapshot | View a Record.

  1. From the menu, select 'Find | Find a Record' to show the first matching record or 'Find | Find All' to search for all matching records with results retuned in a grid.

  2. The Find Snapshot Record dialog box is displayed.

The most useful search parameters here are:
    1. Exact Call - if you know the exact call you're searching for.
    2. Partial Call - if you need to search for a partial call name.
    3. Author - use this if you created the snapshot.

  3. Enter the desired search parameters, then press the 'OK' button to start the search.

  4. Once the bad record has been located, fix it or delete it. Again, if the record shows 'Master ID' at the top center, please Contact Vic to correct it in the master snapshot database.

Creating a Snapshot for the Exact Instance of the Call

If you're still having issues with a particular call not working, trying entering a snapshot for the exact instance of the call.

Do this via Sequence Edit [Graphics].

  1. Use F11 and F12 as necessary so that the first line in the Edit Buffer shows the incorrectly executed call.

  2. From the menu, select 'Flags | Set all flags'.

  3. Click within the Edit Buffer and press Enter (of just press F12) to try to execute the incorrectly executed call.

  4. If there is no exact match for the call in the snapshot database, you will be prompted with Call Not Found - Add It?. Add this instance of the call in the usual manner.

  5. Important: Prior to closing the 'Call Not Found - Add It?' window, press the 'Clear All' button to clear all the flags.
