Music - Edit Music Database

The Edit Music Database window allows edits to the CSDS Music Database.

The music database manages your music files.

Many fields may be set for each music file -- title, label, label number, rating, flags (genre), start and end positions for automatic looping, duration, beats per minute, desired percent tempo change, pathname of music file, pathname of cue sheet, pathname of lyrics file, comments, rhythm, phase (for rounds), key, date added, and more.

How to Add Music to the Database

There are two primary ways to add items to the Music Database:

  1. Edit | Add new music file(s)  (or Ctrl+N)

    • Opens a file explorer to allow selection of music.

Navigate to a folder, select one or more music files (MP3,WAV,etc), then press the 'Open' button.

    • If a selected music file is already in the database, it is added again. In this manner, the same music can be used for both singer and patter, with different parameters.

  2. Edit | Add new Music Files from Folder...

    • Opens the 'Add new Music Files from Folder' dialog box:

    • Select the type of files to add (e.g., MP3), the folder containing the files, then press the 'Add Files' button.

    • All files in the selected folder of the selected type that are not already in the Music Database will be added.

    • Files already in the database are skipped. In this manner, all music files can be kept in only a few folders. This function will only 'import' those file that are not already in the database.

    • Warning messages may appear if CSDS is unable to determine the label number from the music file.

A single music file can also be added via the CSDS Music Player.
  1. Open the CSDS Music Player.
  2. On the 'Load' tab, press the 'File' button and select the music to load.

After Adding Music - Verify and Edit Each Item as Necessary

After adding new items to the Music Database, edit each item to make sure that the Title, Label, Label Number, and Genre Flags are properly set. There are many other fields that can be set, but these four are the most important,

To edit an item, select it, then choose 'Edit | Edit item' from the menu, or click on the 'Edit' toolbar button (the pencil icon). The Music - Edit Item window is then displayed, from which you can edit the individual fields.
