Step Ahead
When is "step ahead" NOT equivalent to Press Ahead? Except for the overriding caviat that the square has to breathe so the resulting figures from Step & Flip remain two distinct formations [i.e. don't step over the center line]?

IMHO "step ahead" is not a precise term. It is a descriptive term used at the caller's discretion to step forward, extend, 1/2 press ahead, press ahead, or even press ahead 1 & 1/2 as required. At the non-challenge levels, I use it to move dancers as necessary. Its usage is usually followed by a phrase such as "check Diamonds".
