Recording
Do you advise recording directly to the notebook, from my Hilton or recording to the desktop then transfering the data over?

It doesn't much matter which computer you use for recording.

In any case, you should copy the recorded file (WAV or MP3) to both computers (or to a CD) so that you have a backup.

I find that I get better recordings when recording from my home stereo turntable instead of from the Hilton turntable.

Be sure to do noise reduction and volume normalization prior to converting your recordings to MP3.
