Square Dance ==> Calling Hints
Learning to call
How do I go about learning to call?

I'd suggest

  1. Get some books on the subject such as
    1. The Sets in Order's Calling Teacher Manual.
    2. A book on Sight Calling, Memory calling, and other styles of calling. I don't have any particular one to recommend, but I recall reading a book by Bill Peterson once. I think Don Beck has a book on a Mental Image method of resolving squares.
    3. The Florida Dance website provides scans of Tom Perry's booklet Semi-Sight, which is out of print. This is a free self-paced course to help you to learn sight calling.
  2. Attend a Caller's School.
    1. Frank Lescrinier runs a school in California.
    2. Betsy Gotta runs a school in Pennsylvania.
    3. Lorenz Kuhlee runs a school in Germany.
    4. Ken Ritucci runs a school in New Hampshire.
    5. Rick Hampton has started a new website to collect information on various Caller's Schools available.
  3. Get a local caller to 'apprentice' you. e.g., give you a little instruction, and let you call a weekly tip at his/her club.
