I am learning to call and am trying to put together an itinerary for a "Fun Night" and am looking for publications on the subject or suggestions as to what to do. Can you help me?

I am unable to locate much information on this subject, as it's not my forte. I suggest that you check out the resources at http://www.usda.org/info.htm

    Learning to call

How do I go about learning to call?

    I'd suggest

    1. Get some books on the subject such as
      1. The Sets in Order's Calling Teacher Manual.
      2. A book on Sight Calling, Memory calling, and other styles of calling. I don't have any particular one to recommend, but I recall reading a book by Bill Peterson once. I think Don Beck has a book on a Mental Image method of resolving squares.
      3. The Florida Dance website provides scans of Tom Perry's booklet Semi-Sight, which is out of print. This is a free self-paced course to help you to learn sight calling.
    2. Attend a Caller's School.
      1. Frank Lescrinier runs a school in California.
      2. Betsy Gotta runs a school in Pennsylvania.
      3. Lorenz Kuhlee runs a school in Germany.
      4. Ken Ritucci runs a school in New Hampshire.
      5. Rick Hampton has started a new website to collect information on various Caller's Schools available.
    3. Get a local caller to 'apprentice' you. e.g., give you a little instruction, and let you call a weekly tip at his/her club.

    Women in Calling
Top of page Bottom of page
I am learning to call, but can't find the site "Women in Calling". This site is supposed to have singing calls geared for female callers. I'm finding that a lot of the records are too low key for me to sing. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The site you are looking for is http://www.dosado.com/women/

You also might want to contact other women callers for their advice. Here's a couple:

    http://www.ceder.net/callerdb/viewsingle.php?RecordId=15
    http://www.ceder.net/callerdb/viewsingle.php?RecordId=31

You might consider getting into digital music (playing your music via a computer using mp3 files), in which case you can take a particular piece of music, and 'edit' it to change the key.
