From an 8-dancer formation (a 2 x 4 for Stretched Box; a 1 x 8 for
Stretched Column | Line | Wave).
Viewing the formation along its long axis, group the dancers into pairs
(two adjacent dancers). Each center pair works with the furthest outside
pair to do the given call, ending such that the 4 dancers are entirely on that
  far side.
Notes:
-
The given call must be able to be done by 4 (or fewer) dancers.
The call can not be an 8-dancer call.

  - For example, from a Double Pass Thru formation,
      Stretched Box
      Rotary Spin
is illegal because dancers within one group of 4 would be
required to work with dancers within the other group of 4.
      Similarly, from a Tidal Wave,
      Stretched Wave
      Relay The Shadow
      is illegal.
- Stretched Box | Column | Line | Wave identifies a formation
(i.e., a Box, a Column, a Line, a Wave) of 4 dancers that has been
'pulled' or 'stretched' apart; dancers do the given call while
simultaneously pulling the 2 portions of the formation together.
- The words Stretched Box | Column | Line | Wave by itself is
not a call, and does not mean to move anywhere or to do anything.

-
If the given call can be done by either 4 or 8 dancers, do the
    4-dancer version of the call.
    For example, on a
    Stretched Box
    Counter Rotate 1/4,
the Counter Rotate would be a Split Counter Rotate.
A Stretched Box Circulate would be a Split Circulate.
-
The Outside pairs of dancers do the call 'normally' (i.e., as if they
were working on their own side).
-

    is different from the

Traffic patterns:
-
Some dancers immediately do a Centers 'Substitute' (or Centers Half Sashay
into the other Center position) and then do the call
on each side. Although this may help dancers to visualize and execute
the call, it is almost always awkward to dance. Please try to avoid
doing this! Instead, think about starting the call
    Disconnected
and gradually blending such that the 4 dancers end together on the same side.
-
From Columns consider a Stretched Box Peel & Trail: the
awkward way to dance this would be Centers Substitute
    (Stable
Zoom) and all Peel & Trail; the smooth way would be Lead two dancers
Phantom Run and Press Ahead as Trailing two dancers Press Ahead and Trade.
-
From a Tidal Wave consider a Stretched Wave Explode The Wave:
the awkward way to dance this would be Center 4
    Once Removed
Half Sashay (yecch!) and all Explode The Wave; the smooth way would be
Step Thru; Face In; Centers Pass Thru; all Right Pull By.
