It's a Sin to Tell a Lie
Fats Waller (1935) 1933
  (MacGregor 2423)   Brian Hotchkies

two columns

OPENER - CLOSER    Basic - SSD Week 1

Circle to the left
Be sure it's true when you say I love you
It's a sin to tell a lie

Allemande left your corner, come back a dosado
Men star left, it's once around you go
Turn your partner by the right, then a left allemande
Come back one and promenade
(So be) sure it's true when you say I love you
It's a sin to tell a lie

FIGURE    Mainstream, corner progression

Heads lead right and you circle to a line now
Forward up to the middle and you come back, star thru
Pass thru, trade by, and do the right & left thru
Outside two rollaway, everybody do an eight chain three
Three hands across, with number four you swing
Swing a little girl and then you promenade
(So be) sure it's true when you say I love you
*It's a sin to tell a lie

*(Pre cue at the end of the second figure)
It's a sin...heads to the middle with a grand parade

MIDDLE BREAK

Heads in for a grand parade
Well cross my heart and hope to die
I'll never, never tell another white lie
Took a little doll out on a date last night
Next to Gravel Gertie would have looked all right
I'm between the devil and the deep blue sea
I said baby you look good to me
I told her I love her, but oh how I lied
Now she's set to be my blushing bride
If she gets me to the altar I'm sunk
Because I can't tell the preacher I was drunk
So Lord have mercy on a no-account sinner
Give me one more chance to let another guy win her
Cross my heart and hope to die
I'll never, never tell another white lie

MIDDLE BREAK (ALTERNATE)

Heads in for a grand parade
Be sure it's true when you say I love you
It's a sin to tell a lie
Millions of hearts have been broken
Just because these words were spoken
I love you, yes I do, I love you
If you break my heart I'll die
So be sure it's true when you say I love you
It's a sin to tell a lie

Grand Parade:
From a static square
The heads step forward to make a wave
The wave turns 1/2 by the right, then centers 3/4 left
Side ladies now step forward to become partners with the head men as the side men courtesy turn the head ladies and all promenade 1/2 way around the square to face in. Repeat the action with the heads leading once more and then repeat two more times with the sides leading each time ending with all dancers at home with partners.
