two columns

OPENER    Basic - SSD Week 4

Sides face, grand square
Years ago when I was a boy in the Oklahoma hills
We didn't have a church in which to pray
So we all got together and we found a farmer's barn
Half torn down with a roof of holes and hay

Circle left
And we called it a brush arbor meeting
Allemande left, come back and promenade
We would sing our songs together and we'd shout hallelujah
I can still hear them singing today

FIGURE (heads twice, sides twice)    Plus, corner progression

Heads lead to the right and circle up four you go
Break to a line, touch 1/4, coordinate
Couples circulate then chain them down the line
Pass thru, partner trade, boys walk straight across
Swing your corner lady, promenade
When the roll is called up yonder, well you know I'll be there
Those memories of our church will never fade

MIDDLE BREAK    Basic - SSD Week 1

As the years went we finally built a real church of our own
The farmer's barn became a memory
Then someone said let's turn that barn into a square dance hall
And now that barn's as active as can be

Circle left
Now we call it a cow county hoedown
Allemande left, come back and promenade
But I still remember when that barn was just a place to pray
And now the barn's a hoedown holiday

CLOSER    Basic - SSD Week 1

The callers and cuers are the best in all the world
They come from all across the USA
They have Kenny Bower, Tony O and I have called there too
I do believe that barn is here to stay

Circle left
And we still call it a cow county hoedown
Allemande left, come back and promenade
If you visit Oklahoma you can still dance there today
They're still calling it a hoedown holiday

TAG

Swing your partner
From that brush arbor meeting where we all would sit and pray
And now the barn's a hoedown holiday
