CALLER'S NOTE

This dance is arranged so the dancers are able to start each movement on the first count of the musical phrases. All the movements take 8 steps with the exception of the promenade (16 steps) and the grand slide (32 steps). If you would like to cue the whole dance and let the dancers enjoy a maximum of music, use the following calls:

OPENER - MIDDLE BREAK - CLOSER

(Give first command at the end of the musical introduction [i.e., wait 6 counts])
4 ladies chain (wait 6)
Chain 'em back (wait 6)
Promenade the track (wait 12)
Sides face, grand slide (wait 14)
Slide back (wait 12)

FIGURE    Basic - SSD Week 7, no progression

Heads square thru 3/4 round (wait 4)
Then promenade, go halfway round (wait 4)
Sides square thru 3/4 round (wait 4)
Separate, go halfway round (wait 4)
All join hands, circle left (wait 6)
Swing your corner (wait 6)
Now promenade (wait 12 if calling heads or sides next, wait 14 if calling 4 ladies chain next)

Grand Slide: Sides face as in usual Grand Square. Everyone remains facing in same direction throughout Grand Slide. Heads walk forward 4 steps as sides back away 4 (as in any Grand Square). At this point, heads move sideways apart from one another using a Slide, Close, Slide, Close movement while sides slide together (as in the beginning measures of the "Left Footer's One-Step"). All walk 4 more steps and slide again. Reverse by sliding first, and then walking 4 steps, etc. Note: This figure is a variation on the Grand Square Sashay and was developed as part of the Flying Squares Country Steppers for their demonstration at the 16th National Convention in 1967.
