two columns

OPENER    Basic - SSD Week 4

Sides face, grand square
* Early one Christmas Even a joey kangaroo
Was far from home and lost in a great big zoo
"Mummy, where's my mummy? They've taken her away"
"We'll help you find your mummy, son, just hop up on the sleigh"

Circle left
** Six white boomers, snow white boomers
Allemande left your corner, come back and promenade
Six white boomers, snow white boomers
On his Australian run

FIGURE    Basic, corner progression

Head couples square thru inside the ring, it's 4 hands you go
When you meet your corner make a right hand star, hop to it Joe
Those heads star by the left and you go once around the ring
Pick up your corner, star promenade around and then
Outside 4 back-track, you go once around and swing
Swing little Joey (Santa Claus, Mary Christmas, a big white boomer),
you promenade the ring
Six white boomers, snow white boomers
On his Australian run

MIDDLE BREAK    Basic - SSD Week 4

Sides face, grand square
* Up beside the bag of toys little Joey hopped
But they hadn't gone far when Santa stopped
Un-harnessed all the reindeer and Joey wondered why
Then he heard a far-off booming in the sky

Circle left
** Six white boomers, snow white boomers
Allemande left your corner, come back and promenade
Six white boomers, snow white boomers
On his Australian run

CLOSER    Basic - SSD Week 4

Sides face, grand square
* Pretty soon ole Santa began to feel the heat
He took his fur-lined boots off to cool his feet
Into one hopped Joey feeling quite okay
While those old men kangaroos kept pulling on the sleigh

Circle left
** Six white boomers, snow white boomers
Racing Santa Claus through the blazing sun

Allemande left your corner, come back and promenade her
On his Australian run

In Australia, Christmas is in the middle of Summer (no snow, and usually very hot), so for many years, in place of the reindeer traditionally used in the northern hemisphere, Santa has taken to using six, large, white kangaroos ("old men kangaroos"), sometimes known as "Boomers" - because of the noise they make while hopping around. A "Joey" is a baby kangaroo.
