Road Goes On Forever
(Rhythm School 706)   Dee Dee Dougherty, David Toms

two columns

OPENER    Basic

Four ladies chain across and back
Sherry was a waitress at the only joint in town
She had a reputation as a girl who'd been around

Walk around your corner, touch 1/4 there
Boys run to the right "Sides face grand square"
Sonny saw her cryin', laid a drunk out on the floor
Stuffed a dollar in her tip jar and walked out of the door
Now she's runnin' right behind him, reachin' for his hand
The road goes on forever and the party never ends

FIGURE    Mainstream - SSD Week 12, corner progression

Heads you promenade halfway around you know
Walk on in and square thru, four hands you go
Go all the way, you'll do the right & left thru
Veer to the left and then, couples circulate there, too
Half tag and scoot back, that corner lady swing
Swing your lady round, promenade I sing
They got a motel by the water and a quart of Bombay gin
The road goes on forever ** and the party never ends

MIDDLE BREAK    Basic

Circle left
They soon ran out of money but Sonny knew a man
Was just released and had a need to move some contraband

Walk around your corner, touch 1/4 there
Boys run to the right "Sides face grand square"
Sonny met the convict at a house just off the route
With a briefcase full of money and a pistol in his boot
The cards were on the table, when the law come bustin in
The road goes on forever and the party never ends

CLOSER

**Chain the girls across and back
Sonny gave her all the money and blew a little kiss
If they asked you how it happened, say I forced you into this

Walk around your corner, touch 1/4 there
Boys run to the right "Sides face grand square"
Sherry buys a paper, and a cold six pack of beer
The headlines read that Sonny is going to the chair
She pulls back on Main Street in her new Mercedes Benz
The road goes on forever and the party never ends
