OPENER    Basic - SSD Week 4

Sides face grand square
Well, when I was a kid I'd take a trip
Every summer down to Mississipp'
To visit my granny in her antebellum world
I'd run barefooted all day long
Climbin' trees, free as a song
And one day I happened to catch myself a squirrel

Allemande and weave
Well, I stuffed him down in an old shoe box
Punched a couple of holes in the top
And when Sunday came I snuck him into church
I was sittin' way back in the very last pew
Showin' him to my good buddy Hugh
When that squirrel got loose and went totally beserk

FIGURE    Mainstream, corner progression

Head couples promenade get halfway around I say
Walk down the middle and do a full square thru, that's four
Four hands around in the middle and then you do a right & left thru
Gonna veer to the left and couples circulate
Do a half tag, scoot back
Swing the corner waiting there, keep her and then you promenade her
It was a fight for survival that broke out in revival
They were jumping pews and shouting hallelujah

MIDDLE BREAK    Basic - SSD Week 4

Sides face grand square
As the choir sang "I Surrender All"
The squirrel ran up Harv Newlan's coveralls
Harv leaped to his feet and said
"Somethin's got a hold on me!"

Well Harv hit the aisles dancin' and screamin'
Some thought he had religion, others thought he had a demon
And Harv thought he had a weed eater loose in his pants

Allemande and weave
The day the squirrel went beserk
In the First Self-Righteous Church
In that sleepy little town of Pascagoula
It was a fight for survival that broke out in revival
They were jumping pews and shouting hallelujah

CLOSER    Basic - SSD Week 4

Sides face grand square
Well, seven deacons and the pastor got saved
And twenty-five thousand dollars got raised
And fifty volunteered for missions in the Congo on the spot
And without so much as an invitation
There was five hundred re-dedications
And we all got baptized whether we needed it or not

Allemande and weave
But the think I'll remember till my dying day
Is how we got that church back on the narrow way
With a half-crazed little Mississippi squirrel
It was a fight for survival that broke out in revival
They were jumping pews and shouting hallelujah

TAG

Swing her
They were jumping pews and shouting hallelujah
