Hey Porter
Johnny Cash 1954
  (Lore 1111)   Bill Schultz

two columns

OPENER - MIDDLE BREAK - CLOSER    A2, unknown progression

Four little ladies promenade inside the big ole ring
Come on home swing, all four couples swing
Join eight hands circle to the left, go walkin' round that ring
Do an allemande left that corner girl and weave around that ring
*Hey porter, hey porter would you tell me the time
Do a dosado and promenade, promenade right down that line
Would you ask that engineer if he would kindly slow it down
Or better still just stop the train, cause I wanna look around

FIGURE    C4, corner progression

Four little ladies chain 3/4 round that ring
Side (head) two ladies chain across, you're gonna turn that girl and then
Head (side) two couples sashay thru and wheel and deal her there
Join eight hands circle to the left, halfway around that square
Those sides (heads) square thru four hands around and then
Four hands around and do a sashay thru and promenade that ring
**Promenade that lady, promenade her if you please
Cause I can smell frost on cotton leaves and I feel that Southern breeze

ALTERNATE LYRICS

*Hey porter, hey porter what time did you say?
Do a dosado and promenade, promenade til the break of day
Would you ask that engineer if he would kindly ring his bell
And ask everybody that ain't asleep to give a great big yell

*Hey porter, hey porter it's gettin' light outside
Do a dosado and promenade, promenade here high and wide
Would you ask that engineer to kindly blow his whistle please
Cause I can smell frost on cotton leaves and I feel that Southern breeze

**Would you ask that engineer if he would kindly ring his bell
And ask everybody that ain't asleep to give a great big yell

**Would you ask that engineer to kindly blow his whistle please
Cause I can smell frost on cotton leaves and I feel that Southern breeze

SASHAY THRU: Sashay Thru is done with two couples facing:
Start a dosado (be sure it is executed properly) about 7/8ths of
the way around, men will back by right shoulder to right shoulder
as soon as they are by, the men slide nose to nose to their right to
end in a two-faced line.
