How to - Implement a Single-Hall Multi-Level Dance

There are two ways to implement a single-hall multi-level dance.

Method 1 - Create a separate rotation for each level

  • Create a rotation for each level.
  • Drawbacks:
    • It's tedious
    • The rotation must be changed when the dance level changes.
    • Each dancer's status needs to be changed within each rotation.
    • Dancers who only dance the lowest level may be selected to sitout unless they are marked as must dance, or marked as students and must dance.

Method 2 -- Use the Star Tip feature

Example of how to create a rotation for a dance consisting of SSD, Mainstream, and Plus tips:

  1. Open the 'Preferences - this Rotation' window.

    • Check the 'Enable Star Tips' checkbox.

    • Edit the text for 'Star Tip A' to be 'SSD'
    • Edit the text for 'Star Tip B' to be 'Mainstream'
    • Edit the text for 'Star Tip C' to be 'Plus'

    Close this window.

  2. In the Rotation window:

For each dancer in the rotation, set flags indicating which levels the dancer wishes to dance (i.e., SSD, Mainstrean, and/or Plus).

As usual, there's more than one way this can be done:

    1. Select one or more dancers.

    2. then...

      via mouse right-click:
      1. Right-click the mouse within the selected dancer(s) to invoke the Dancer Info dialog box.
        or press the toolbar button

      2. Press the 'Yes' button to set, or the 'No' button to clear, the desired level (SSD, Mainstream, or Plus) for the selected dancer(s).
      3. The dialog box automatically closes, and the rotation grid is updated.

      or...

      via the Status menu:
      1. From the menu, select 'Status' followed by the desired level, followed by 'Yes' to set the level or 'No' to clear the level for the selected dancer(s).

or... If you selected an individual dancer...

via Edit Dancer - in this Rotation:
      1. From the menu, select 'Edit | Edit Dancer - this rotation'
        or press the toolbar button

      2. Under 'Star Tips', check the appropriate levels.

      3. Close this window.

    3. Repeat the above steps as necessary for all dancers.

While doing the above, it's best to be in the 'Standard Display' of the Rotation window, so that you can see the columns for the desired levels (SSD, Mainstream, and Plus). If these columns are not displayed, from the Rotation window menu, select 'Display | Default Fields'.

  3. After setting the desired level flags for everyone...

To generate a tip for a specific level, from the rotation window menu, select one of the following:
    • Tip | Generate 'SSD' Tip
    • Tip | Generate 'Mainstream' Tip
    • Tip | Generate 'Plus' Tip

    A confirmation prompt appears:

Hot keys for the 'Tip | Generate' menu can be set via Preferences - Global on the Tip Generation tab.

When a tip is generated...
  1. The status of each dancer is saved.
  2. Dancers not enabled for the given tip, but who are marked as ready or must dance, are marked to sitout.
  3. Upon confirmation, the tip is generated and displayed.
  4. After the Tip Display window is closed, dancers are restored to their saved status.
