OPENER - CLOSER    Basic

4 ladies chain, you turn that girl
Roll away, circle left you go
4 ladies roll away, circle and then
Left allemande and weave the ring
Pirates and poets and me believe
Dosado and promenade
The buccaneer and Shakespeare inside of me
Believe that we're in love with you

FIGURE    Basic, corner progression

Heads promenade halfway round
Come on and square thru 4 hands round
4 hands and then, swing thru you know
Boys run right and ferris wheel
You square thru 3/4 and then
Swing that girl and promenade again
The buccaneer and Shakespeare inside of me
Believe that we're in love with you

MIDDLE BREAK    Mainstream

Sides face, grand square
All I ever wanted was to find you, girl
Make love upon the seven seas
If we never make it around the world
Key West will be all right with me

Circle, allemande left, promenade
The buccaneer and Shakespeare inside of me
Believe that we're in love with you

Pirates And Poets

I was born beside a big blue bay
Grew up on the Gulf of Mexico
Dreamed of the islands with Papa Hemingway
And ol' Errol Flynn was my hero

All I ever wanted was to find you, girl
Make love upon the seven seas
But if we never made it around the world
Key West would be all right with me

Pirates and Poets and me you see
Are one of a kind
Searching for a treasure like you
And finding the perfect rhyme

Pirates and Poets and me believe
In love only when it's true
And the buccaneer and Shakespeare inside of me
Believe that we're in love with you

Pirates have their silver swords
They can steal your heart away
Poets have their golden words
They can win you with what they say

Never knew I had any hero in me
Never found much worth fighting for
Never knew the beauty of poetry
But I'd never loved you before

Pirates and Poets and me you see
Are one of a kind
Searching for a treasure like you
And finding the perfect rhyme

Pirates and Poets and me believe
In love only when it's true
And the buccaneer and Shakespeare inside of me
Believe that we're in love with you

Pirates and Poets and me you see
Are one of a kind
Searching for a treasure like you
And finding the perfect rhyme

Pirates and Poets and me believe
In love only when it's true
And the buccaneer and Shakespeare inside of me
Believe that we're in love with you

Lyrics by Sonny Limbo and Bertie Higgins.
Recorded by Bertie Higgins.

Comments

This is one of my favorite songs. I first heard it in a square dance and it's one of the most romantic pieces out there. I recommend it for duets (especially male/female)
