First I was dragged into dancing by my parents in 1982 and came across a caller by the name of Tim Crawford that changed my original opinion of square dancing. I started calling in 1984 under the guidance of Doug Rieck. After some years of practice, I began calling for the Flushing Roadrunners and eventually the Independence Squares until taking a break in 2019. Now that my boys are raised and I'm retiring (June 2024) after 30 years teaching middle school I'm looking to get back into the activity. Specializing in Party Nights

I have been dancing and calling for some 30 plus years. The level of calling has been from fun nighters to mainstream plus. For fun nighters, I make sure people have a good time. I interact well with the audience (dancers) to get them to relax so they enjoy dancing. I am currently conducting mainstream and plus lessons. Again, it is important to have the dancers be able to learn the calls. I teach the dancers in several different formats to have them learn the steps.

I am in the Ludington area June through September. I specialize in party dances, one night stands, weddings, hoe downs, and any special occasion. I also call Western Square Dances from beginners through plus.

My square dance calling is primarily old-fashioned and new england squares as well as the quadrilles from the 19th century and the cotillions from the 18th century. I also call contra dances and was the instructor/caller/prompter for the monthly First Sunday American Contradancing series at Greenfield Village & Henry Ford Museum from 1981 to 2005. I conduct workshops in contradancing, traditional squares and English Country dance in the USA, Europe and Skandinavia. I enjoy calling for both adult and home school & youth groups.

Dave Smith is the caller for South Lyon Square Dance Club, a square dance club in South Lyon, Michigan. He also teaches and calls square dance parties for private parties, church groups & festivals, associations, Girl Scouts Daddy-Daughter Dances, Youth Groups, Singles groups, etc.

I specialize in conducting Square Dance / Country-Western Parties for adult groups with no experience necessary, as well as Daddy/Daughter or Mother/Son dances and family groups. Sometimes I include the popular Hustle or other line dance and novelty dances like the Hokey Pokey and Chicken Dance for Family groups. The Virginia Reel is often a part of the repertoire. This is a wonderful group activity for corporate events, couples clubs, church groups, girl scout daddy/daughter groups and family groups. I have been calling since 1961.
