Jerry was born in 1942 and raised, in southwestern Kansas. He began his dancing career by graduating from Square Dance classes in 1963. Jerry was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1966, and after two tours in Vietnam, he returned to being a square dancer until 1977. He was transferred to Germany in 1977, where he started teaching square dance classes and establish his first club in Germany in 1978.
Jerry attended his first Square Dance Callers College in 1978 and a second one in 1985, both conducted in Germany, and a third Callers College in Texas in 2002. In 1981, he became the caller for a second square dance club in Germany, while calling and conducting classes for both clubs until 1985 when he was transferred to Fort Hood near Killeen, TX.
From 1986 to 1988 Jerry called and taught classes for the Central Texas Lone Stars Square Dance Club in Temple, TX. In 1990 he established the Levis 'n Lace Square Dance Club in Liberty Hill, TX and was their caller thru 1997.
Jerry began calling for the Killeen Kickers Square Dance Club in Killeen, TX in 1999. During that time he conducted four Annual Five County Square Dance Bus Tours.
He was an active member of the European Callers and Teachers Association (ECTA). Since 1986 he has been a member of the International Square Dance Caller Association (CALLERLAB) and an active member and past president of the Texas State Callers Association (TSCA) and the Heart of Texas Callers Association serving as President for 8 different terms. In 1991 he joined the Capitol Area Dance Leaders Association in Austin, TX and served as Vice-President for several years.
He served as the Sound Vice-Chairman for the Texas State Square Dance Festivals, in Waco, TX in 1998, 2002 and Second Sound Vice-Chairman in 2009. He was awarded the Prestige Award by the Texas State Callers Association, which was presented by Jon and Deborah Carroll-Jones on May 31, 2013 at a dance honoring him.
