- From a squared set, a complex movement involving all eight dancers: Ladies make two-hand stars in the center from the head positions and move directly to the man to their right from the side positions. Head men remain in place, receive girls from the side man to their left and put them into the middle to star left or right. Side men take girls out of the center star and send them directly to the head men to their right. Girls alternate hands. Men accept whatever hand the girl gives you. If girls go in from the head position in a right hand star, they star 3/4. If they go in in a left hand star, they star once and a quarter. Girls move around the square to their right.
Head ladies' part: Make a right hand star (two-hand) in the center 3/4 to the original corner. Arm turn corner by the left and move directly to the opposite man. Arm turn opposite man by the right and go into the middle to star left once and a quarter (with the other head lady). Arm turn the side man across from corner by the right. Move directly to the head man to the right *original partner at home position) and arm turn him by the left to take the next call.
Side ladies' part: Move directly to the head man to the right and arm turn him by the right. Go into the center for a left hand star (with the other side lady) once and a quarter. Arm turn opposite man by the right and move 3/4 to original partner for a left arm turn to take the next call.
Teacup Chain today is ordinarily done from a situation in which all dancers are performing a left forearm turn.
