Twisted Concept [C4]

From various formations. EN: 10
If the first part of the given call involves a Pass Thru or a Pull By, then do the Pass Thru or Pull By but turn 90° toward the shoulder passed between the two dancers halfway through the movement. EN: 20

( or Left Pull By)

Notes:
  • The first part of the call does not have to be defined as a Pass Thru or Pull By. For example, from an Eight Chain Thru, consider a Twisted Percolate. The first part of Percolate is is a Circulate. From an Eight Chain Thru formation, Circulate is equivalent to Pass Thru, so the Twisted Concept can be applied. EN: 30
  • If the first part of the call is not a Pass Thru or Pull By movement, then Twisted has no effect. In addition, some dancers may not be able to do the first part Twisted. Twisted affects only the first part of the entire call, not necessarily the first part that you do (e.g., on Twisted Split Square Thru, only those who start the call work Twisted). EN: 40
  • Be sure to finish the Pass Thru or Pull By before trying to complete the call. Remember that Pass Thru and Pull By end back-to-backEN: 50
  • Callers may use concepts such as Finally or Oddly | Evenly to 'twist' other parts of the call. EN: 60
  • Twisted has no effect on calls such as Touch 1/4 or Turn Thru since they do not start with a Pull By or Pass Thru (e.g., Touch 1/4 is a Touch followed by an Arm Turn 1/4: it is not a Pass Thru then 1/4 Right). EN: 70
  • Twisted is often taught as Single Circle 1/4 (to face) then do the call. This cheat may get you into trouble for the following reasons: EN: 80

    1. The 'Single Circle' movement may be done either to the left or to the right. This turn direction depends upon which shoulder is passed during the Pass Thru or Pull By. Do not blindly do a Single Circle 1/4 then the call, or you will breakdown on calls such as Twisted Left Pass & RollEN: 90
    2. Your part of the call may not be able to be done Twisted, but you could do a Single Circle 1/4 followed by the given call. For example, from Facing Lines, consider a Twisted Lines Touch 1/4 Thru. If you are a Center, you could do a Single Circle 1/4 then Touch 1/4, but that would be incorrect! EN: 100

If Twisted is not a Single Circle 1/4 then how do I do the call? EN: 110
The 'twist' should be done during the Pass Thru or Pull By or slightly before. Do not try to 'twist' after the Pass Thru or Pull By since this is awkward and disorientating. EN: 120

From Facing Dancers: a Twisted Right Pull By is danced as follows: Shake right-hands; start to do a Single Circle 1/4 using only one hand, then complete the Pull By while finishing the 90° turn. This should be danced as one continuous smooth movement. EN: 130

From Facing Dancers: a Twisted Pass Thru is danced as follows: As one movement and using no hands, do a Touch 1/4 and Step Thru. EN: 140
